Rotherham vs Port Vale prediction

Having been relegated last season, Rotherham United spent heavily on wages under Steve Evans, but the Millers dramatically underperformed with a bottom-half finish. They did improve under Matt Hamshaw at the back end of last year, and Hamshaw is expected to have continued to build a much better camaraderie over the summer.

Under the management of former Sheffield Wednesday and West Bromwich Albion boss Darren Moore, Port Vale got themselves out of League Two at the first attempt last season, gaining automatic promotion as runners’ up in the fourth-tier. The Valiants will believe their squad is already of requisite quality for League One’s mid-table.

This one is expected to be a reasonably hard-fought encounter at the New York Stadium, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a low-scoring affair on the opening day.

Rotherham vs Port Vale tip: Under 3.5 goals
