It has been a positive first-half of the campaign for both Roma and Sassuolo as they seek to build in 2026, albeit with very different aspirations in Serie A.

Roma preview: Gasp’s Romans

Following the appointment of Gian Piero Gasperini over the summer, Roma have been much-improved in the first-half of the season as the Giallorossi try and challenge for a top four finish, but they did have a bit of a dip over the festive period.

However, the hosts have been able to recover from some dodgy form with a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Lecce in midweek at Stadio Comunale Via del Mare in Apulia, courtesy of goals from striking duo Evan Ferguson and Artem Dovbyk.

Sassuolo preview: Steady Sassuolo

Having gained promotion to the top-flight last season, Sassuolo have been able to build well this season, as was to be expected, with an impressive array of stars in the final third that should never have been playing in Serie B.

However, after a strong opening few months, the visitors have hit a rocky patch of form of late with the 3-0 defeat at home to Juventus during the midweek extending their winless run of form to five matches.

Roma team news: Plenty of absentees

There are plenty of injury issues for the hosts to deal with but they also have both Evan Ndicka and Neil El Aynaoui away at the CAF Africa Cup of Nations with defenders Mario Hermoso and Gianluca Mancini missing through suspension.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Celik, Ziolkowski, Ghilardi; Wesley, Kone, Cristante, El Shaarawy; Dybala, Pisilli; Ferguson

Unavailable: Gollini (Injured), Mario Hermoso (Suspended), Ndicka (International duty), Mancini (Suspended), Rensch (Injured), El Aynaoui (International duty), Pellegrini (Injured), Bove (Illness), Bailey (Injured)

Questionable: Dovbyk (Injured)

Sassuolo team news: Still no Berardi

One of those aforementioned key players in the final third, captain Domenico Berardi, is still missing through injury for Sassuolo, while Woyo Coulibaly is still away at AFCON with Mali.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Muric; Walukiewicz, Idzes, Muharemovic, Doig; Vranckx, Matic, Kone; Iannoni, Pinamonti, Lauriente

Unavailable: Coulibaly (International duty), Romagna (Injured), Pieragnolo (Injured), Thorstvedt (Injured), Yeferson Paz (Injured), Boloca (Injured), Thorstvedt (Injured), Volpato (Injured), Berardi (Injured)

Questionable:

Roma vs Sassuolo prediction

At the Stadio Olimpico, Roma will really fancy their chances of building on a much-needed win against Lecce, which came on the back of three defeats in their previous four matches in Serie A. Sassuolo have been entertaining to watch for a lot of this campaign but the absence of Berardi has really hurt them and siding with the hosts to grind out another win would appear a good bet.

Roma vs Sassuolo tip: Roma to win & under 3.5 goals
