Roma Preview: Ranieri’s Romans

Ever since coming out of retirement during the November international break to become Roma’s third permanent manager of the season following the sackings of both Daniele De Rossi and Ivan Juric, Claudio Ranieri has enjoyed a magnificent time of it back in the Italian capital.

Roma come into this one on the back of defeating defending champions Internazionale by a goal to nil at San Siro last weekend thanks to a 22nd minute winner scored by Matias Soule. The Giallorossi are now unbeaten in their last 18 matches in Serie A.

Fiorentina Preview: Focus on UECL

Having been runners’ up in each of the last two seasons of the UEFA Europa Conference League under the management of Vincenzo Italiano, Italiano’s replacement, Raffaele Palladino, has I Viola once again in the middle of a UECL semi-final tie at the moment.

The first-leg of that tie came the other day as they suffered a 2-1 loss to Real Betis at the Benito Villamarin in Andalusia. Palladino’s side also begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting a few places but just three points outside of the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots.

Roma Team News: Matias Soule stepping up

With Argentina international Paulo Dybala still missing through injury due to a thigh issue, his compatriot and fellow former Juventus attacking midfielder Matias Soule has stepped up to the plate as a key man in the final third for the Romans.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Svilar; Celik, Mancini, Ndicka; Matias Soule, Cristante, Kone, Pellegrini, Angelino; Dovbyk, Shomurodov

Unavailable: Dybala (Injured)

Questionable: Nelsson (Injured), Abdulhamid (Injured)

Fiorentina Team News: Ranieri suspended

Fiorentina defender Luca Ranieri scored in their 2-1 defeat to Betis the other day but the Italian will not be involved as they make the trip to the capital city this weekend as he is missing through suspension for I Viola.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): David de Gea; Pongracic, Pablo Mari, Comuzzo; Folorunsho, Mandragora, Cataldi, Adli, Gosens; Gudmundsson, Beltran

Unavailable: Ranieri (Suspended), Bove (Illness)

Questionable: Dodo (Injured), Colpani (Injured), Kean (Injured)

Roma vs Fiorentina Prediction

Roma have produced their remarkable unbeaten run of form from a position whereby they even looked like they could be in relegation trouble at one stage with a far more defensive and pragmatic, effective approach under Ranieri. Fiorentina play a more attacking style but haven’t been as fluent in the last couple of months and they may well be distracted for this one, too, with their focus being on the second-leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final tie against Real Betis at the Artemio Franchi this coming midweek. Siding with Roma in a low-scoring encounter may well be the way to go for this one at the Olimpico.

Roma vs Fiorentina Tip: Roma to win & under 3.5 goals
