Roma preview: Impressive Romans

Roma, with Gian Piero Gasperini at the helm, head into this one on the back of an impressive 2-0 defeat of Stuttgart in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League in midweek, courtesy of a brace scored by Nicolo Pisilli. The Giallorossi appear to have now come through a mid-season wobble.

Their 2-0 victory against Torino in Piedmont last weekend made it four victories in five matches in the league. That leaves the Romans sitting tucked inside the top four of the table and just four points behind their upcoming opponents ahead of their clash down in the capital.

AC Milan preview: Impressive Milan

Their upcoming opponents, AC Milan, are sitting second in the table ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures. The Rossoneri have become a more serious force once again now with Massimiliano Allegri at the helm as they sit just three points behind city rivals Internazionale at the top-of-the-table.

Unbeaten since an opening day defeat at home to Cremonese, AC Milan edged past Lecce by a goal to nil at San Siro last week, with Niclas Fullkrug scoring his first goal for the club a few days after a come from behind 3-1 defeat of an impressive Como side away from home.

Roma team news: El Aynaoui a doubt

Neil El Aynaoui returns from the CAF Africa Cup of Nations but is a doubt for this week, while key attackers Stephan El Shaarawy and Artem Dovbyk are both unavailable.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Svilar; Celik, Ziolkowski, Ghilardi; Rensch, Kone, Pisilli, Tsimikas; Matias Soule, Pellegrini; Malen

Unavailable: Mario Hermoso (Injured), Angelino (Injured), Baldanzi (Injured), El Shaarawy (Injured), Dovbyk (Injured)

Questionable: El Aynaoui (Fitness)

AC Milan team news: Saelemaekers a doubt

Versatile wing-back Alexis Saelemaekers is an injury doubt for the visitors this weekend due to a thigh issue, while Santiago Gimenez remains a confirmed injury absentee.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Maignan; Tomori, Gabbia, De Winter; Loftus-Cheek, Ricci, Jashari, Rabiot, Pervis Estupinan; Pulisic, Leao

Unavailable: Santiago Gimenez (Injured)

Questionable: Saelemaekers (Injured)

Roma vs AC Milan prediction

Gasperini is known for playing a very attacking style of football but his Roma side have lacked fluency, despite their improvement. They now face an AC Milan side that are an archetypal Allegri team and extremely defensive, often tedious to watch for the neutral. As a result, a low-scoring encounter is to be expected this Sunday night.

Roma vs AC Milan tip: Under 2.5 goals
