River Plate vs Palmeiras prediction

Four-time Copa Libertadores champions River Plate were unbeaten in the group stage and then squeezed past Paraguayan side Libertad in the round of 16 on penalties, winning 3-1 on spot-kick after the two-legged tie has ended 1-1.

Marcelo Gallardo’s side are also going well domestically given that they top Zone B in the second phase of the Argentine Primeira Division, and they are currently unbeaten in 12 matches across all competitions since losing 2-0 to European giants Inter at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Palmeiras, three-time continental champions themselves - most recently in 2021 - made it through the round of 16 more comfortably with a 4-0 aggregate defeat of Peruvian outfit Universitario. This came after they won all six of their group stage fixtures; they were the only team to achieve that feat.

This is certainly a standout tie in the quarter-finals, but with home advantage in the first leg, we’re edging towards River Plate in this one, who look capable of extending their unbeaten run. The draw no bet market offers some insurance though, with a home win by no means a foregone conclusion.
