River Plate vs Libertad prediction

The first-leg of this CONMEBOL Copa Libertadores round of 16 tie saw River Plate and Libertad share a goalless draw at La Huerta Stadium in Asuncion in Paraguay last week.

River Plate, coached by Marcelo Gallardo, underwhelmed at this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, but they remain one of the strongest sides on the continent. The Argentinians defeated Godoy Cruz by four goals to two at the weekend, and they are now unbeaten in seven matches across all competitions since that tournament. Libertad have since shared another goalless draw, being held to a stalemate by Olimpia in the Paraguayan capital city at the weekend.

Libertad will sit behind the ball and likely make things awkward for River Plate in Buenos Aires, but River Plate would have to remain firm favourites for this one in Argentina.

River Plate vs Libertad tip: River Plate to win & under 3.5 goals
