Ricky Evans was involved in an Ally Pally classic in the second round, recovering from missing several match darts to finally outlast multiple major winner James Wade by six legs to four in the deciding set.
'Rapid Ricky' was typically erratic in that match, mixing some sublime darts with some very average spells, but that is part of the appeal of the Englishman, who is very much a crowd favourite at Alexandra Palace.
He now takes on a young player who has truly made a name for himself at this tournament, with Charlie Manby currently enjoying the finest moment of his young career. Having qualified for the PDC World Darts Championship on account of his exploits on the Development Tour, the 20-year-old has seen off Cameron Menzies and Adam Sevada so far, averaging over 90 on each occasion.
The bookies are siding with the more experienced Evans here, but Manby has shown no fear so far and will back himself to continue his journey. There isn't a lot to separate them when it comes to their tournament average, so we're expecting a close battle here, with over 5.5 sets looking likely.
