Richard Veenstra sits 48th in the PDC rankings after a year in which he reached three quarter-finals in Players Championship events.
The Dutchman is yet to really catch fire in a televised PDC tournament though, and has enjoyed much more success on the BDO/WDF circuit, where he has twice been a semi-finalist in their version of the World Championship.
This is a fifth PDC World Darts Championship appearance for Nitin Kumar, although he is yet to progress beyond the first hurdle.
The 40-year-old, who won the Indian Qualifier to book his Ally Pally spot, has only ever won one set at the worlds and is likely to be outclassed by an an experienced operator in Veenstra.
