Rennes preview: Rennes push for Europe

Following the fairly surprising sacking of former Aston Villa and Newcastle United right-back Habib Beye as manager, Rennes have appointed Franck Haise and the hosts have put in some excellent performances after that managerial change.

Rennes managed to defeat Paris Saint-Germain by three goals to one a couple of weeks ago before then defeating Auxerre by three goals to nil away from home at Stade de l’Abbe Deschamps last weekend.

Toulouse preview: Mid-table Toulouse

Under the management of Carlos Martinez Novell, Toulouse have remained firmly in the middle-of-the-table for the 2025/26 campaign as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting three points outside of Europe and 14 ahead of danger.

The visitors come into this one on the back of a frustrating 1-1 draw with big spending but underperforming Paris FC at the Stadium de Toulouse last week, extending their winless run of form to four matches in Ligue 1.

Rennes team news: Frankowski a doubt

Przemyslaw Frankowski is a doubt for this one, while Liverpool-bound centre-back Jeremy Jacquet is a confirmed absentee alongside Finland international midfielder Glen Kamara.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Samba; Nagida, Rouault, Brassier, Merlin; Rongier, Camara; Al Tamari, Szymanski, Nordin; Lepaul

Unavailable: Jacquet (Injured), Kamara (Injured)

Questionable: Frankowski (Injured)

Toulouse team news: A few issues

Cristian Casseres Jr is missing through suspension for this one and they have plenty of absentees and injury issues in attack, such as Aron Donnum and Cameroon international striker Frank Magri.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Restes; Sidibe, Cresswell, Koumbassa; Kamanzi, Vossah, Diop, Methalie; Gboho, Santiago Hidalgo; Vignolo

Unavailable: Nicolaisen (Injured), Cristian Casseres Jr (Suspended), Francis (Injured), Azizi (Injured), Emersonn (Injured)

Questionable: Messali (Injured), Donnum (Injured), Magri (Injured)

Rennes vs Toulouse prediction

Carlos Martinez Novell has done a very good job at Toulouse but there has been a general ineffectiveness and inefficiency at both ends of the pitch that may well have hurt the visitors in their pursuit of Europe in recent seasons. That inertia that may well have set in with being firmly ensconced in the middle-of-the-table means that siding with Rennes appears a good bet for this one.
