Stade Rennais have underperforming throughout the campaign as they now prepare to welcome likely strugglers Auxerre to Roazhon Park this weekend.

Rennes preview: Need for consistency

Stade Rennais have been underperforming for quite some time in relation to the amount of money that they spend. Rennes, now coached by former Newcastle United and Aston Villa defender Habib Beye, have been pegged back by too many draws thus far.

They have suffered just one defeat in their seven matches but four draws have hurt Rennes. Their most recent outing saw them share an entertaining 2-2 draw with Le Havre at Stade Oceane a couple of weeks ago.

Auxerre preview: Struggling Auxerre

Following their promotion to the top-flight back in the 2023/24 season, Auxerre overperformed last season and comfortably finished in the middle-of-the-table with Christophe Pelissier at the helm.

Auxerre are suffering from second season syndrome, though, with five defeats in their opening seven matches as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom three and the relegation playoff place.

Rennes team news: Key doubts

Just like their opponents, Rennes have plenty of doubts for this weekend such as defender Anthony Rouault, wing-back Przemyslaw Frankowski and midfielder Glen Kamara.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Samba; Seidu, Jacquet, Brassier; Hateboer, Camara, Rongier, Cisse, Merlin; Lepaul, Embolo

Unavailable:

Questionable: Rouault (Injured), Frankowski (Injured), Kamara (Injured)

Auxerre team news: Several doubts

Auxerre have several injury doubts for this weekend with centre-back Sinaly Diomande potentially sidelined alongside the likes of Oussama El Azzouzi and Kevin Danois.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Leon; Senaya, Francisco Sierralta, Akpa; Casimir, Owusu, Danois, Mensah; Sinayoko, Mara, Loader

Unavailable: Siwe (Injured), Buayi-Kiala (Injured)

Questionable: Diomande (Injured), El Azzouzi (Injured), Coulibaly (Injured), Danois (Injured)

Rennes vs Auxerre prediction

Stade Rennais have a good level of quality and their squad has been well built to play with wing-backs. However, whether it be the inexperience of Beye or the profiles of their squad in terms of age and trajectory remaining a mish mash, they often struggle to get over the line. They face an Auxerre side that lack quality overall, though, and are appearing to succumb to a level of form that was expected last season.

Rennes vs Auxerre tip: Double chance – Rennes to win or draw
