Real Madrid preview: In the title race

Alvaro Arbeloa has been under pressure in charge of Real Madrid with Los Blancos continuing to put in some fairly shoddy performances but they somehow remain just a point behind Barcelona at the top-of-the-table in La Liga.

The hosts come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 victory over Valencia at Mestalla last week, courtesy of second-half strikes from Alvaro Carreras and Kylian Mbappe in another underwhelming showing.

Real Sociedad preview: Impressive La Real

Following the appointment of Pellegrino Matarazzo in the mid-season winter break, Real Sociedad have been much-improved and they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the top seven and the European spots in La Liga.

The Basque giants also appear set to move into the final of the Copa del Rey and they managed to defeat Athletic Club by a goal to nil in the semi-finals, courtesy of a 62nd minute winner scored by Benat Turrientes mid-way through the second-half.

Real Madrid team news: Mbappe a doubt

Kylian Mbappe picked up a bit of a knock against the Valencians but it is very unlikely that the France captain will miss out for Los Blancos against La Real this weekend.

Predicted XI (4-1-2-1-2): Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Raul Asencio, Dean Huijsen, Carreras; Tchouameni; Fede Valverde, Camavinga; Guler; Vinicius Junior, Mbappe

Unavailable: Eder Militao (Injured), Bellingham (Injured), Rodrygo (Injured)

Questionable: Mendy (Injured), Mbappe (Injured)

Real Sociedad team news: A few issues

Real Sociedad are dealing with a few issues for this one with Takefusa Kubo definitely unavailable, while Luka Sucic and Ander Barrenetxea are doubtful, too.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Alex Remiro; Alvaro Odriozola, Igor Zubeldia, Caleta-Car, Sergio Gomez; Pablo Marin, Julen Gorrotxategi, Carlos Soler, Sucic; Guedes, Mikel Oyarzabal

Unavailable: Unai Marrero (Injured), Inaki Ruperez (Injured), Kubo (Injured)

Questionable: Sucic (Injured), Ander Barrenetxea (Injured), Zakharyan (Injured)

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad prediction

Real Madrid have an immense amount of quality but they are struggling to find much rhythm or fluency – and that has been the case throughout the last couple of years. Real Sociedad head to the capital city in excellent form, now unbeaten in their last 11 matches across all competitions. Madrid have so much quality to score and so will get on the front foot but Real Sociedad will be very confident of exploiting the hosts’ weaknesses.

Real Madrid vs Real Sociedad tip: Both teams to score
