RB Leipzig preview: Tucked in the top four

RB Leipzig, with Ole Werner at the helm, begin the 22nd match day of the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign sitting tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots, despite an inconsistent recent run of form.

The hosts have managed just two wins in their last five Bundesliga games but they did manage to defeat Cologne by two goals to one at the RheinEnergie Stadion at the weekend, courtesy of a Christoph Baumgartner brace.

Wolfsburg preview: Struggling Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg begin the match day hovering just above the bottom three and the danger zone, sitting just ahead of third-from-bottom Werder Bremen on goal difference and only two points ahead of St Pauli.

The visitors succumbed to their third successive loss last weekend as they were beaten 2-1 by Borussia Dortmund at the Volkswagen Arena due to an 87th minute strike scored by Guinea international attacker Serhou Guirassy.

RB Leipzig team news: Raum suspended

Germany international full-back David Raum is missing through suspension for this one, while versatile defensive midfielder Assan Ouedraogo is also a confirmed injury absentee.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Gulacsi; Henrichs, Orban, Seiwald, Bitshiabu; Gruda, Schlager, Baumgartner; Diomande, Romulo, Nusa

Unavailable: Raum (Suspended), Ouedraogo (Injured), Gebel (Injured)

Questionable:

Wolfsburg team news: Fischer out

Wolfsburg have a fresh injury issue as defender Kilian Fischer is now unavailable due to a thigh injury, while Patrick Wimmer is also a doubt for the visitors this weekend.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Grabara; Adjetey, Vavro, Koulierakis, Belocian; Eriksen, Arnold; Daghim, Shiogai, Paredes; Amoura

Unavailable: Rogerio (Injured), Maehle (Injured), Cleiton (Injured), Fischer (Injured), Dardai (Injured), Wind (Injured)

Questionable: Seelt (Injured), Wimmer (Injured)

RB Leipzig vs Wolfsburg prediction

RB Leipzig’s most recent outing highlighted the limitations of their quality as they were beaten 2-0 by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal. Wolfsburg, though, are one of the very weakest teams in Germany’s top-flight at the moment and the fallen giants are very much involved in the relegation battle and so siding with the hosts is the way to go for this one.
