Winner over Phil Taylor in his maidan PDC World Darts Championship appearance, the last final to be held at the Circus Tavern and the first player to hit a nine-darter at Ally Pally. Barney is a true legend of the game and whilst not the destructive machine he used to be on the oche, you’d be a fool to write him off.
Stefan Bellmont won’t just have to deal with Barney in this game, he’ll also have the crowd on his back. The Swiss player is yet to win at the World Darts Championship but he is a Challenger Tour winner and has nothing to lose here. When taking into account that Van Barneveld isn’t the incredibly high scorer of past years, Bellmont may well get chances here to put his opponent under massive pressure.
Beating James Wade at the Grand Slam of Darts least year, albeit in a short format will have done wonders for Bellmont’s confidence on the big stage and this should prove an intriguing contest. We could be in store for some drama and backing over 4.5 total sets represents genuine value.
