Scottish giants and 2022 UEFA Europa League runners’ up Rangers are enduring a miserable campaign as they welcome a stubborn Roma side to Ibrox in Glasgow.

How to watch on TV: UK – TNT Sports / US – CBS Sports

How to watch online: UK – discovery+ / US – Paramount+

Key stats

  • This is the first UEFA competition match between these teams.
  • Rangers have won only two of their last 13 UEFA competition matches against Italian teams (D4 L7).
  • Rangers have lost their last six UEFA competition matches.
  • Roma’s only previous UEFA matches against a Scottish team were in the semi-finals of the 1983/84 European Cup against Dundee United when they overturned a 2-0 deficit from the first leg in Scotland with a 3-0 win in Rome to reach the final.
  • A defeat for Roma would see them lose three successive matches in a UEFA competition group stage/league phase for the first time since the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League.
  • Victory for Roma would see them set a record for most matches won in UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League history (all rounds, including qualifying). Their current total is 98, level with Tottenham.
  • Roma have lost only three of their last ten UEFA competition group/league matches away from home (W3 D4).

Rangers vs Roma prediction

After starting extremely poorly, Rangers recently replaced Russell Martin with former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl. The Bears have been improved since his appointment but they still head into this one on the back of a 3-1 defeat after extra-time in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals against Old Firm rivals Celtic at Hampden Park.

They now face a Roma side that appointed Gian Piero Gasperini over the summer but the Giallorossi haven’t quite hit his remarkably attacking straps just yet with a more cautious and low-scoring approach. That led to a slender 1-0 victory at San Siro against AC Milan at the weekend.

Roma will head to Glasgow knowing they should be good enough to avoid defeat against Rangers, albeit it may not be an entertaining clash for the neutral at Ibrox.

Rangers vs Roma tip: Roma to win & under 3.5 goals
