Key Stats

  • Aside from this tie, the only previous UEFA matches between these teams were in the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round when Qarabağ progressed to the play-off round with a 4-2 aggregate victory (1-1 h, 3-1 a). Ferencváros have never faced another team from Azerbaijan and those are Qarabağ’s only previous fixtures against a Hungarian opponent.
  • Qarabağ are aiming to reach the UEFA Champions League proper for the second time, with their previous appearance being in the 2017/18 campaign. They are the only Azerbaijani team to have participated in the group stage/league phase of the competition.
  • Qarabağ have lost their last two UEFA Champions League play-off ties since they reached the 2017/18 group stage with a victory on away goals against Copenhagen (1-0 h, 1-2 a). Their most recent appearance at this stage of the competition was last season when they lost 0-5 on aggregate against GNK Dinamo (0-3 a, 0-2 h).
  • Qarabağ have won all their five UEFA Champions League qualifying matches this season, with only two goals conceded (F13 A2).
  • Ferencváros are aiming for a third appearance in the UEFA Champions League proper. They previously participated in the group stage in 1995/96, and most recently, in 2020/21 when they progressed through the play-off round with a victory on away goals against Molde (3-3 a, 0-0 h).
  • Ferencváros last featured in the UEFA Champions League play-off round in 2021/22 when they lost out 4-6 on aggregate against Young Boys (2-3 a, 2-3 h).
  • Ferencváros have won only two of their last nine UEFA competition matches away from home (D2 L5).
  • Ferencváros forward Barnabás Varga has scored five goals in five appearances in UEFA Champions League qualifying this season.

Qarabag vs Ferencvaros prediction

Qarabag managed to comfortably defeat Robbie Keane’s Ferencvaros by three goals to one at the Groupama Arena in the Hungarian capital of Budapest in the first-leg of this UEFA Champions League playoff round tie last week. Barnabas Varga gave Ferencvaros a first-half lead before Qarabag turned the game on its head throughout the second-half, thanks to goals from Marko Jankovic, Kevin Medina and Musa Qurbanli.

Qarabag have performed well throughout the UEFA Champions League with victories over Shelbourne and Shkendija, whilst former Maccabi Tel-Aviv boss Keane has cultivated an entertaining and attacking Ferencvaros side.

The expectation for this second-leg in the Azeri capital of Baku is for an entertaining clash, in which goals are to be expected with Ferencvaros going all out attack.

Qarabag vs Ferencvaros tip: Over 2.5 goals
