We have a BENELUX derby taking place in Eindhoven this week as Dutch champions PSV kick off their UEFA Champions League campaign against the Belgian champions.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch on TV: UK – TNT Sports / US – CBS Sports

How to watch online: UK – discovery+ / US – Paramount+

PSV preview: Striving for more

PSV Eindhoven reached the round of 16 of last season’s UEFA Champions League, having beaten Juventus in the knockout playoffs. The Dutch outfit will be expected to try and go for more once against this time around, with Peter Bosz still at the helm.

PSV nearly collapsed and lost the Dutch title last year, but came through on the final day of the campaign. They head into this one on the back of a typically thrilling 5-3 victory away to NEC Nijmegen at the weekend, with Ricardo Pepi continuing his good form.

Union SG preview: Making history

After knocking on the door for the last few years, Royale Union Saint-Gilloise finally regained the Belgian title for the first time in around about 100 years last season, and they are now heading into a first ever UEFA Champions League proper season.

Union SG head into this one on the back of a slender 1-0 defeat of newly-promoted Dender in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League at the weekend, courtesy of an 87th minute winner scored by young Ecuadorian international striker Kevin Rodriguez.

PSV team news: Plea a doubt

Alassana Plea, who joined from Borussia Monchengladbach over the summer, is sidelined for PSV due to a knee injury, whilst Mauro Junior is missing through injury, too.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Kovar; Sildillia, Flamingo, Gasiorowski, Dest; Til, Schouten, Saibari; Man, Pepi, Perisic

Unavailable: Junior (Injured), Plea (Injured)

Questionable: Obispo (Injured)

Union SG team news: Florucz suspended

Union SG make the short trip to the Netherlands with just one absentee as Raul Florucz is missing through suspension, having been sent off for Olimpija Ljubljana against Borac Banja Luka in the UEFA Europa Conference League last season.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Scherpen; Mac Allister, Leysen, Sykes; Khalaily, Zorgane, Rasmussen, Niang; Akinpelu; Ait El Hadj, Rodriguez

Unavailable: Florucz (Suspended)

Questionable:

PSV vs Union SG prediction

These are two teams that are expected to play on the front foot this season, even in Europe, and, albeit the visitors play slightly more reactively, it should still be an entertaining watch. Peter Bosz is known for a style of football that can almost be too open, but his PSV side are strong and more than competent at the back. An entertaining home win would appear the best bet for this one at the Philips Stadion.

PSV vs Union SG Tip: PSV to win & over 2.5 goals
