Paul Heckingbottom’s Preston North End come into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Wrexham at the Racecourse Ground in north Wales the other day. That ended what was a seven-match unbeaten run of form and knocked the Lancastrians outside of the top six and the playoff places.
They face a Sheffield Wednesday side that remain on minus seven points and destined for League One but the Owls restored some pride with hard-fought performances over the festive period, sharing a couple of draws, with Hull City on Boxing Day and then against Blackburn Rovers.
Even though they have been strong this season, Preston have remained low-scoring throughout the campaign and, even if they come out on top here, it may not be a thriller for the neutral.
