Key stats

  • This is the first U21 EURO finals match between these teams. They have met nine times in qualifying for the finals with Portugal leading the head-to-head with five wins to Poland’s two, the pair have also drawn twice. Note: They did meet in the 1994 quarter-finals (not considered final tournament) Portugal won both legs (3-1 a, 2-0 h).
  • Portugal have lost only two of their last 14 U21 EURO group matches (W8 D4).
  • Portugal have won only one of their last six U21 EURO final tournament matches (D2 L3).
  • Portugal have failed to score in four of their last six U21 EURO final tournament matches.
  • Poland have won only two of their previous seven U21 EURO group matches (D1 L4).
  • Poland failed to make it through to the knockout phase from their previous two U21 EURO group participations in 2017 and 2019.

Portugal vs Poland prediction

Portugal must improve from an attacking perspective, with three points crucial up for grabs here. It may be the case that they take more risks offensively by pushing extra bodies forward, even if it potentially leaves them from exposed defensively. Poland conceded twice in defeat against Georgia and it’s difficult to see them holding out for 90 minutes in this one.

But it would be no surprise if Poland were able to conjure up chances here on the counter attack and when factoring in that both teams are desperate for a win, it’s well worth backing both teams to score regardless of which nation comes out on top.

Portugal vs Poland tip: Both teams to score
