  • Portugal have lost only one of their last 22 World Cup qualifying matches at home (W17 D4). They have won 12 of the 13 most recent (L1).
  • Cristiano Ronaldo needs one goal to become the first player to reach the landmark of 40 goals scored in World Cup qualifying matches.
  • Hungary have lost only one of their last six World Cup qualifying matches away from home (W3 D2).
  • Hungary have scored two or more goals in their last five World Cup qualifying matches.

Portugal vs Hungary prediction

Portugal come into this one on the back of an impressive start to UEFA qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following the tragic death of Diogo Jota in the summer after they won the UEFA Nations League. The Portuguese were underwhelming but eventually did squeeze past Ireland in Lisbon the other day.

They now face a Hungary side that come into this one on the back of a comfortable 2-0 victory over Armenia at the Puskas Arena in Budapest the other day. The Hungarians have certainly regressed in the last couple of years since qualifying for UEFA EURO 2024 in the autumn of 2023.

Hungary have good players but aren’t playing well and Portugal are expected to ease to victory here, especially with their home advantage in the capital city.

Portugal vs Hungary tip: Portugal to win -1 handicap
