Newly-promoted Pisa have put in some reasonable performances as they now take on an Udinese side performing better than expected.

Pisa preview: Competitive Pisa

In their opening couple of games of the 2025/26 Serie A season, Pisa have collected a point with a couple of half-decent performances. They began with a 1-0 loss at home to a Roma side in the midst of the start of the Gian Piero Gasperini era, before then sharing a 1-1 draw against a transitioning and rebuilding Atalanta side, who have just lost Gasperini.

They have done some intriguing business over the summer with Juan Cuadrado perhaps the most notable and recognisable addition. The hosts have appointed former Genoa boss Alberto Gilardino, who has proven himself capable of easing teams away from the bottom three and the relegation places.

Udinese preview: Impressive Friulians

The Pozzo family have seemingly turned their attention away from Udinese to Watford again this summer, with the Friulians seeking to build a squad that can maintain a position sitting firmly in the middle of the Serie A table, rather than build again and push towards Europe, with the Pozzo resources being spread too thin in the modern game of billionaire owners.

Udinese, under the management of former Legia Warsaw boss Kosta Runjaic, they started with a 1-1 draw at home to Hellas Verona before then pulling off a major surprise victory at San Siro, with a shock 2-1 victory over Internazionale, thanks to goals from former Watford striker Keinan Davis and and former Metz midfielder Arthur Atta.

Pisa team news: A few doubts

Pisa have a few doubts ahead of the visit of Udinese this weekend, as defender Daniel Denoon could be sidelined alongside both Tomas Esteves and Isak Vural for this one.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Semper; Canestrelli, Caracciolo, Lusuardi; Toure, Marin, Aebischer, Tramoni, Angori; Moreo, Meister

Unavailable:

Questionable: Denoon (Injured), Esteves (Injured), Vural (Injured)

Udinese team news: Okoye suspended

Udinese remain without goalkeeper Maduka Okoye due to suspension, and they also have a key midfield injury doubt for this one, Sandi Lovric, injured on international duty.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Sava; Bertola, Kristensen, Solet; Ehizibue, Piotrowski, Karlstrom, Atta, Zemura; Bayo, Davis

Unavailable: Okoye (Suspended)

Questionable: Lovric (Injured)

Pisa vs Udinese prediction

Udinese have perhaps surprised many by being able to hold a reasonable level this season, despite inertia off the pitch and the departures of key attackers like Florian Thauvin and Lorenzo Lucca. They come up against a Pisa side that will be competitive at Arena Garibaldi. Regardless of the end match result, it is unlikely to be too much of a thriller for the neutral and a low-scoring encounter would seem quite likely in the city of the Leaning Tower.

Pisa vs Udinese tip: Under 2.5 goals
