Pisa preview: Struggling Pisa

Following promotion to Serie A last season, Pisa took the decision to appoint former Genoa boss Alberto Gilardino but the former Italy international striker is coming under increasing pressure as the Tuscans remain winless thus far.

That said, the home team come into this one on the back of a much-improved performance against high flying AC Milan, earning a 2-2 draw away from home at San Siro, denied all three points due to a late Zachary Athekame equaliser.

Lazio preview: Need for consistency

In his second stint in charge, it has been a tough start to the campaign for Maurizio Sarri at Lazio with the Romans having managed just two victories in their opening seven matches, but they did earn themselves a much-needed victory the other day.

That came against one of Sarri’s former clubs, Juventus, as they defeated The Old Lady by a goal to nil at the Stadio Olimpico at the weekend, courtesy of a first-half winner scored by midfielder Toma Basic.

Pisa team news: Raul Albiol a doubt

Experienced former Real Madrid and Villarreal centre-back Raul Albiol is a doubt due to a hand injury, whilst the likes of Tomas Esteves and Calvin Stengs remain sidelined.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Semper; Caracciolo, Angori, Bonfanti; Canestrelli, Akinsanmiro, Aebischer, Tramoni, Toure; Meister, Nzola

Unavailable: Lusuardi (Injured), Esteves (Injured), Stengs (Injured)

Questionable: Raul Albiol (Injured)

Lazio team news: Several absentees

Lazio head to Tuscany with an abundance of key absentees across the park, most notably in attack with both Matteo Cancellieri and Taty Castellanos sidelined.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Provedel; Lazzari, Mario Gila, Romagnoli, Marusic; Guendouzi, Cataldi, Basic; Isaksen, Dia, Zaccagni

Unavailable: Gigot (Injured), Tavares (Injured), Dele-Bashiru (Injured), Rovella (Injured), Cancellieri (Injured), Taty Castellanos (Injured)

Questionable:

Pisa vs Lazio prediction

Pisa will head into this one with a bit of confidence. They showed they could contain a strong AC Milan side whilst also hurting a Massimiliano Allegri-coached defence. Lazio, even in victory against Juventus, showed their own fallibilities and there is still concern over the tenure of Sarri once again. It wouldn’t actually be a major shock to see Pisa pull off a surprise victory here and get their first win of the Serie A campaign.

Pisa vs Lazio tip: Double chance – Pisa to win or draw
