Peter Wright vs Arno Merk prediction
There appears to be no doubt that Peter Wright is a fading force in darts, especially after a year in which he failed to go deep in any televised tournament, bar one.
The exception being last year's PDC World Darts Championship, where he rekindled some of the old magic by going all the way to the quarter-finals.
There was little sign of that standard in the first round though, where he averaged just 83.51 in his 3-0 victory over a wasteful Noa-Lynn van Leuven.
Opening the tournament as a debutant is a nerve-wracking prospect but Arno Merk acquitted himself extremely well in his 3-1 victory over experienced Belgian Kim Huybrechts.
The German averaged seven points more than Wright, and could be worth backing here. The bookies favour 'Snakebite', and you can see why given that he's a two-time world champion, but Merk had produced the better darts this year and should be considered for the upset.
