Paris Saint-Germain preview: PSG from behind

For a second successive season, Paris Saint-Germain are playing a fellow Ligue 1 side in the knockout playoff round of the UEFA Champions League after they had defeated Stade Brest by ten goals to nil on aggregate.

PSG, who produced a comeback in the first-leg, have also risen back to the top-of-the-table domestically, taking advantage of Lens’ 3-2 loss to Monaco by hammering rock-bottom Metz by three goals to nil.

Monaco preview: Going again

PSG’s come from behind victory at Stade Louis II in the first-leg was impressive but hard-fought. After Folarin Balogun had given the Monegasque a 2-0 lead, PSG then fought back via a brace from Desire Doue and a strike from Achraf Hakimi.

The principality club have appeared to turn a bit of a corner of late with Sebastian Pocognoli at the helm and finally getting some fluency from his side after a woeful start following his move from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

Paris Saint-Germain team news: Dembele a doubt

2025 Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele has had an injury plagued season and now the France international is an attacker for this one due to a calf issue.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Zaire-Emery, Vitinha, Neves; Kvaratskhelia, Barcola, Doue

Unavailable: Ruiz (Injured), Ndjantou (Injured)

Questionable: Mayulu (Injured), Dembele (Injured)

Monaco team news: Golovin suspended

Russia international attacking midfielder Aleksandr Golovin was excellent for the opening stages of last week but a red card in that game means he is now missing through suspension.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Kohn; Vanderson, Teze, Faes, Henrique; Camara, Zakaria; Fati, Biereth, Adingra; Balogun

Unavailable: Hradecky (Injured), Salisu (Injured), Dier (Injured), Ouattara (Injured), Cabral (Injured), Pogba (Injured), Golovin (Suspended), Minamino (Injured)

Questionable: Mawissa (Injured), Akliouche (Injured), Diatta (Injured)

Paris Saint-Germain vs Monaco prediction

Even though they are still fighting to defend both the Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League titles, PSG are some way off their best and will have to step it up to complete the defence of the double – with the treble having already gone by the wayside. Monaco will be aware that improvement will not have been made in a week and so they should create enough to at least score in the French capital city but PSG remain favourites.

Paris Saint-Germain vs Monaco Tip: Paris Saint-Germain to win & both teams to score
