Oviedo preview: Intriguing situation in Asturias

Over the October international break, Real Oviedo took the surprising decision to sack manager Veljko Paunovic and replace him with Luis Carrion, who was returning after having abandoned the Asturians for Tenerife in the summer of 2024.

Oviedo had started the season reasonably well in what was an extremely difficult fixture list and the decision to part company with Paunovic was controversial. They shared a 3-3 draw with fellow strugglers Girona at Montilivi last weekend.

Osasuna preview: Stubborn Osasuna

Having led Mirandes to the playoff final where they then lost to Oviedo last season, Italian manager Alessio Lisci instead departed the club for Osasuna, with the intention being to drag the Pamplona-based outfit towards the top seven.

Osasuna come into this one on the back of a 5-0 demolition of sixth-tier outfit Sant Jordi in the first round of the Copa del Rey. However, they have scored just nine goals in ten La Liga games thus far with Lisci’s very defensive style.

Oviedo team news: Couple of doubts

Oviedo have a couple of key injury doubts for this weekend as former Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla is potentially sidelined alongside former Reading man Ovie Ejaria.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Aaron; Nacho Vidal, David Costas, Carmo, Javi Lopez; Brekalo, Dendoncker, Colombatto, Ilyas Chaira; Salomon Rondon, Fede Vinas

Unavailable: Alvaro Lemos (Injured)

Questionable: Santi Cazorla (Injured), Ejaria (Injured)

Osasuna team news: A couple of issues

Osasuna are dealing with a couple of issues for this one as versatile defender Valentin Rosier is a confirmed absentee, whilst crucial attacking midfielder Aimar Oroz is a doubt.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Sergio Herrera; Jorge Herrando, Alejandro Catena, Boyomo; Jon Moncayola, Lucas Torro, Moi Gomez, Abel Bretones; Raul Garcia, Budimir, Victor Munoz

Unavailable: Rosier (Injured)

Questionable: Aimar Oroz (Injured)

Oviedo vs Osasuna prediction

Real Oviedo will believe they have an excellent opportunity to get their first victory against their nemesis from last season, Alessio Lisci, who is struggling with Osasuna. Oviedo may have been entertaining last week but they remain the lowest scorers in the division and they are the only team to have scored fewer goals than Osasuna so far this season and so a low-scoring encounter appears likely for this one.

Oviedo vs Osasuna tip: Under 2.5 goals
