Newcastle team news: Illness issues
Jacob Ramsey is a doubt for Newcastle this week as the attacking midfielder was forced off against Everton due to a bug and Nick Woltemade is also dealing with illness and has not trained in the early part of this week.
Tino Livramento should return sooner than expected but isn't yet ready for this one, with Newcastle still without key men such as Fabian Schar and Bruno Guimaraes.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Thiaw, Burn, Hall; Joelinton, Tonali, Willock; Murphy, Wissa, Gordon
Unavailable: Schar (Injured), Krafth (Injured), Livramento (Injured), Miley (Injured), Guimaraes (Injured)
Questionable: Ramsey (Illness), Woltemade (Illness)
Man Utd team news: Maguire and Shaw illness issues
Manchester United have some issues in defence as both Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw had to deal with illness against Crystal Palace and so the England internationals are doubts this week.
Matthijs de Ligt and Patrick Dorgu are both out with Mason Mount supposedly 'getting closer' to a return, while Lisandro Martinez may not be too far away either.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Dalot, Yoro, Maguire, Shaw; Casemiro, Mainoo; Mbeumo, Fernandes, Cunha; Sesko
Unavailable: De Ligt (Injured), Dorgu (Injured), Mount (Injured)
Questionable: Martinez (Injured), Maguire (Illness), Shaw (Illness)
Newcastle vs Man Utd prediction
Newcastle United have remained strong in both the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League, with an upcoming tie against Barcelona in the latter, but the Magpies’ entertaining 3-2 loss at home to Everton at the weekend has continued to up the pressure on manager Eddie Howe, who has done an excellent job on Tyneside.
Manchester United are continuing to win and showing all of the hallmarks of United of the past, coming from behind to defeat Crystal Palace at the weekend to continue what has been a brilliant start to Michael Carrick’s interim era. However, the Red Devils’ performance level has dipped significantly of late and that will be a slight concern.
United have win six and drawn one under Carrick thus far but there is a feeling that a defeat may be around the corner and under the lights on a big occasion is something this Newcastle side tends to thrive on – so it wouldn’t be a massive shock to see that come this week.
