Newcastle preview: Inconsistent Magpies

Newcastle United come into this one on the back of edging towards the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, defeating Fulham by two goals to one on Tyneside, having won the trophy last year and giving themselves respite from indifferent league form.

Their indifferent league form continued in the Wear-Tyne Derby last weekend, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Sunderland due to an own goal scored early on in the second-half by club-record signing Nick Woltemade.

Chelsea preview: Back on track

Chelsea had moved themselves into the Premier League title race under the management of Enzo Maresca but the Blues then endured a four-match winless run of form across all competitions.

However, that poor run of form has now ended after Chelsea eased to a comfortable 2-0 win against Everton at Stamford Bridge before defeating League One side Cardiff City by three goals to one in the cup in midweek.

Newcastle vs Chelsea prediction

The expectation is that Newcastle will get themselves on the front foot, as is so often the case with their home advantage, as they try and rise to the biggest of occasions, where they tend to thrive most. They do have major personnel issues, though, and so Chelsea will fancy themselves to punish that with a fun watch for the neutral to be expected in the north east of England at Saturday lunchtime.

Newcastle vs Chelsea tip: Both teams to score
