Newcastle team news: Bruno Guimaraes a doubt

Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is a major doubt for this weekend with Eddie Howe not yet confirming whether or not the Brazil international will be involved this weekend.

Dan Burn trained on Friday and could be involved on Sunday but they have some confirmed absentees such as Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth, Tino Livramento and Jacob Murphy.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Thiaw, Schar, Hall; Tonali, Guimaraes, Ramsey; Barnes, Woltemade, Gordon

Unavailable: Schar (Injured), Livramento (Injured), Krafth (Injured), Murphy (Injured)

Questionable: Burn (Fitness), Guimaraes (Injured), Osula (Fitness)

Aston Villa team news: Midfield absentees

In his pre-match press conference, Aston Villa are dealing with key absentees in the middle of the park as Boubacar Kamara is now sidelined alongside both John McGinn and Ross Barkley.

Unai Emery didn't confirm whether or not Emiliano Martinez and Alysson would return to the squad, while Leon Bailey will be available after being recalled from his loan at Roma.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Bizot; Cash, Konsa, Torres, Digne; Tielemans, Onana; Buendia, Rogers, Sancho; Watkins

Unavailable: Barkley (Injured), McGinn (Injured), Kamara (Injured)

Questionable: Martinez (Injured), Alysson (Fitness)

Newcastle vs Aston Villa prediction

The inconsistent Newcastle United come into this one on the back of an impressive 3-0 defeat of PSV Eindhoven at St James' Park in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. That came on the back of the Magpies sharing a goalless draw with an improving but still rock-bottom Wolverhampton Wanderers side at Molineux.

Aston Villa most recently managed to defeat Fenerbahce by a goal to nil in Istanbul in the UEFA Europa League, courtesy of a 25th minute winner scored by Jadon Sancho. The Villans have managed just one win in their last four matches as they sit seven points adrift of Arsenal at the top-of-the-table ahead of this weekend's round of fixtures.

These are two entertaining teams that have punched their way into the elite in the Premier League and both teams scoring seems a good bet for this one in the north east.
