New Caledonia vs New Zealand Prediction

Japan became the first team to book their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup from qualification with the likes of Argentina, Uruguay and Iran all possibly qualifying this week but there will be a guaranteed entrant from Oceania as New Caledonia meet New Zealand at Eden Park.

The expansion of the FIFA World Cup to 48 teams has meant that for the first time ever, Oceania are guaranteed a team at the tournament as well as having a spot in the intercontinental playoffs.

Despite the fact it is a final and therefore surely evenly matched, this one is not the case. New Caledonia are comfortably the second best team in Oceania, better than the rest, and they dispatched of Tahiti by three goals to nil in the semi-finals. New Zealand, though, are dominant and will remain dominant for many years to come in OFC and they themselves actually annihilated Fiji by seven goals to nil in the semi-final.

Chris Wood scored a hat-trick in that game, making it nine in four qualifying matches, and the New Zealanders should become the fifth team to be assured of their spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
