Nathan Aspinall rarely had to get out of second gear in his second-round encounter with USA's Leonard Gates, defeating the veteran thrower in straight sets for the loss of just three legs.
The sixth seed is yet to find his best darts at the tournament but, as we have seen throughout 2025, he is capable of raising his game when it matters most.
'The Asp' will no doubt be given a sterner test by Kevin Doets, who clearly enjoys playing on the Alexandra Palace stage. The Dutchman made the fourth round last year, and showed a lot of maturity to see off crowd favourite David Munyua 3-0 in the second round.
While Aspinall is favoured here, Doets is capable of pushing him close, so over 5.5 sets looks reasonable.
