Napoli Preview: Challenging for the title

Napoli come into this one on the back of getting into a run of form whereby they are grinding out enough to get themselves results as the Neapolitans head into the final three games of the campaign sitting three points clear of the defending champions Internazionale at the top.

The Partenopei have now enjoyed four successive victories as they come into this one on the back of a 1-0 defeat of Lecce at Stadio Comunale Via del Mare in Apulia last weekend, courtesy of a 24th minute strike from Italy international attacker Giacomo Raspadori.

Genoa Preview: Genoa’s inertia

Genoa have been impressive since the appointment of Patrick Vieira during the November international break, who replaced Alberto Gilardino, and they have pushed themselves comfortably clear of the bottom three and the relegation places.

They are firmly in mid-table and the Genovese have perhaps taken the rest of the campaign off as they come into this one on the back of three successive losses, most recently suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to AC Milan last weekend in a game in which they were 1-0 up.

Napoli Team News: Centre-back issues

Napoli have some key issues at centre-back for this one as both Juan Jesus and Alessandro Buongiorno are now sidelined for this one. They are sidelined alongside former Ajax winger David Neres, whilst Slovakia international defensive midfielder Stanislav Lobotka is a doubt.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Meret; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Mathias Olivera, Spinazzola; Anguissa, Gilmour, McTominay; Politano, Lukaku, Raspadori

Unavailable: Juan (Injured), Buongiorno (Injured), David Neres (Injured)

Questionable: Lobotka (Injured)

Genoa Team News: Thorsby suspended

Genoa will be without midfielder Morten Thorsby as he is missing through suspension for this weekend’s trip to the league leaders. They also have some key injury issues such as key loanee Fabio Miretti and Ukraine international midfielder Ruslan Malinovskiy.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Leali; Sabelli, De Winter, Johan Vasquez, Caricol; Masini, Frendrup; Norton-Cuffy, Junior Messias, Vitinha; Pinamonti

Unavailable: Miretti (Injured), Thorsby (Suspended), Malinovskiy (Injured), Balotelli (Out of favour)

Questionable: Matturro (Injured), Onana (Injured), Cornet (Injured), Ekuban (Injured)

Napoli vs Genoa Prediction

Antonio Conte can often get harshly pigeon-hold as a narrow-minded, defensive-oriented coach but his sides are often more exhilarating than that. However, this Napoli side is not really falling into that category and they are even more defensive than the cliché. They face a Genoa side that have been improved under Vieira by focusing on their defensive record. They lack goals and this should be a low-scoring affair with Napoli expected to grind out another win.

Napoli vs Genoa Tip: Napoli to win to nil
