Napoli preview: Conte’s European struggles

Throughout his managerial career, Antonio Conte’s record in European football in comparison to domestic endeavours is appalling, as shown by a recent 6-2 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands in the UEFA Champions League a couple of weeks ago.

In Serie A, though, the defending Italian champions head into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Como that leaves them remaining at the top-of-the-table after winning their fourth Scudetto in the club’s history last season.

Eintracht Frankfurt preview: Entertaining Frankfurt

Each of Eintracht Frankfurt’s three UEFA Champions League matches have finished 5-1 with a victory over Galatasaray before defeats by the same scoreline against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano and then at home to Liverpool.

Under the management of Dino Toppmoller, that high-scoring and thrilling style has been replicated across all competitions, too, with their 1-1 draw against Heidenheim the other day meaning there has been 41 goals in their nine Bundesliga matches.

Napoli team news: Lucca suspended

Former Udinese striker Lorenzo Lucca was sent off against PSV and now he is missing through suspension. They also have a few injury absentees such as Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Milinkovic-Savic; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno, Gutierrez; Anguissa, Lobotka, McTominay; Politano, Hojlund, Neres

Unavailable: Meret (Injured), Spinazzola (Injured), Gilmour (Injured), De Bruyne (Injured) Lucca (Suspended), Lukaku (Injured)

Eintracht Frankfurt team news: Uzun out

Exciting youngster Can Uzun picked up an injury at the weekend and he is now sidelined for the visitors. They also have a couple of other absentees such as defender Elias Baum and midfielder Oscar Hojlund.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Zetterer; Kristensen, Koch, Theate; Doan, Larsson, Skhiri, Brown; Knauff, Gotze; Wahi

Unavailable: Baum (Injured), Uzun (Injured), Hojlund (Injured)

Napoli vs Eintracht Frankfurt prediction

With their home advantage, Napoli will try and get themselves back on track in Europe but the style of football of Conte, for whatever reason, often underwhelms in the UEFA Champions League. They face a Frankfurt side that play an entertaining and fun style that can see them take the game to anyone and so a high-scoring encounter should be expected with neither side necessarily to be trusted with victory.

Napoli vs Eintracht Frankfurt Tip: Over 2.5 goals
