Napoli preview: Winning again

In the semi-finals of the Supercoppa Italiana at Al Awwal Park in Riyadh the other day, Napoli managed to ease to a surprisingly comfortable 2-0 victory over AC Milan with goals in either half scored by David Neres and then Rasmus Hojlund.

The Neapolitans, under the management of Antonio Conte, have been some way off their relentless best that won them their fourth Italian title last season, but they are only two points behind Internazionale at the top after a 1-0 loss to Udinese last week.

Bologna preview: Brilliant Bologna

Coached by Vincenzo Italiano, Bologna ended their 50-year trophy drought with the Coppa Italia last season and, as they compete for a top four finish in Serie A, they have a brilliant chance to add another piece of silverware this week.

After a three-match winless run of form in Serie A, Bologna managed to defeat Inter on penalties in the semi-finals of the Supercoppa Italiana after a 1-1 draw in which Riccardo Orsolini had cancelled out Marcus Thuram’s opener.

Napoli team news: Midfield injuries

Napoli are dealing with plenty of midfield injury issues for this one as Billy Gilmour remains sidelined alongside both Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Kevin De Bruyne

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Milinkovic-Savic; Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Juan; Politano, Lobotka, McTominay, Spinazzola; David Neres, Elmas; Hojlund

Unavailable: Gilmour (Injured), Anguissa (Injured), De Bruyne (Injured)

Questionable: Meret (Injured), Lukaku (Injured)

Bologna team news: A few injury issues

The biggest and freshest injury concern for Bologna sees in-form Federico Bernadeschi now sidelined due to a collarbone issue suffered against Inter the other day.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ravaglia; Holm, Heggem, Jhon Lucumi, Juan Miranda; Moro, Pobega; Orsolini, Odgaard, Rowe; Castro

Unavailable: Bernadeschi (Injured)

Questionable: Skorupski (Injured), Casale (Injured), Freuler (Injured)

Napoli vs Bologna prediction

This is not a game that is expected to be played with much intensity, given the stakes of silverware as well as the heat of playing in Saudi Arabia. Bologna play a more proactive style of football but their lack of quality, especially without Bernadeschi, could help Napoli control the game quite well. A low-scoring encounter is to be expected but the Partenopei to win the cup wouldn’t be a shock.

Napoli vs Bologna tip: Napoli to win & under 3.5 goals
