Montpellier vs Angers Prediction

As we head into the second match day in the return of the Ligue 1 season following the winter break, we have two of the strugglers in the French top-flight taking on each other between Montpellier Herault and Angers this weekend.

Montpellier Herault sacked Michel Der Zakarian a couple of months ago and was replaced by former Ivory Coast boss Jean-Louis Gasset, who is a boyhood Montpellier supporter. They returned from the winter break with a slender 1-0 loss at Olympique Lyonnais at Parc OL last weekend with a second-half stoppage-time own goal scored by Khalil Fayad.

Following their promotion to the top-flight last season, Angers begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places. Alexandre Dujeux’s visitors come into this one on the back of an impressive 2-0 defeat of Stade Brest last weekend thanks to goals from Emmanuel Lepaul and Ibrahima Niane.

Montpellier remain rock-bottom in Ligue 1 but can move to just four points behind Angers this week. They have combined for just 31 goals thus far and a low-scoring encounter is expected.

Montpellier vs Angers Tip: Under 2.5 goals
