Michael van Gerwen was hugely underwhelming in the first round against Mitsuhiko Tatsunami but he significantly improved upon that in his 3-1 victory over the dangerous William O'Connor last time out.
The Dutchman delivered a three-figure average against the Irishman, and although he is still below the levels that took him to three world titles, he will have gained plenty of confidence from that display.
One of the surprise packages on the tournament, Arno Merk took two-time world champion Peter Wright apart in the second round, defeating an off-colour 'Snakebite' 3-0 for the loss of just two legs.
Indeed, the debutant has dropped just the one set across his two matches to date. This will undoubtedly be the biggest match of his career, but the 33-year-old German has shown no fear so far and is capable of taking at least a set off MVG.
