Mexico team news: No Luis Chavez

It has been confirmed that Luis Chavez has suffered an ACL injury, so his involvement in next summer’s FIFA World Cup has to be in doubt. The likes of Hirving Lozano and Henry Martin missed out on the squad due to injury, too.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Luis Malagon; Julian Araujo, Edson Alvarez, Johan Vasquez, Jesus Gallardo; Marcel Ruiz, Erik Lira, Gilberto Mora; Roberto Alvarado, Raul Jimenez, Alexis Vega

Unavailable: Luis Chavez (Injured)

Honduras team news: Fully fit

Reinaldo Rueda has a fully fit and available squad for this semi-final clash with the Mexicans, so the Hondurans will be expected to name an unchanged eleven, having overachieved to reach this stage.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Edrick Menjivar; Luis Santamaria, Denil Maldonado, Julian Martinez, Joseph Rosales; Flores, Kervin Arriaga; Edwin Rodriguez, Jorge Alvarez, Romell Quioto; Jorge Benguche

Mexico vs Honduras prediction

Coached by former Real Mallorca boss Javier Aguirre, Mexico have been impressive during his tenure and that has continued into the CONCACAF Gold Cup. They eased into the semi-finals courtesy of a comfortable 2-0 defeat of Herve Renard’s Saudi Arabia at the State Farm Stadium in Arizona the other day.

They now face a Honduras side that began their campaign with a 6-0 annihilation at the hands of Canada. Despite that, they have pulled themselves together to reach the final four and restore some pride, most recently edging past a strong and improving Panama side on penalties in the quarter-finals at the weekend.

Honduras have been obdurate since Canada demolished them but this is once again another step up in quality and Mexico should be controlled enough to get the victory.

Mexico vs Honduras tip: Mexico to win & under 3.5 goals
