Mexico team news: Strikeforce to watch

When it comes to Mexico, all eyes will no doubt turn to their formidable frontline, which will strike fear into the backlines of every nation competing in this year’s Gold Cup. Raul Jimenez and Santiago Gimenez have both been consistent goalscorers in Europe for a sustained period and will each be confident of finding the net at least once here.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Malagon; Jorge Sanchez, Montes, Reyes, Gallardo; Pineda, Alvarez, Ruiz, Vega; Jimenez, Gimenez

Dominican Republic team news: Firpo a headline name

Leeds Utd left-back Junior Firpo is coming off the back of a brilliant domestic season which saw him lead his side to promotion back to the English Premier League. Now he looks to take that form onto the international tournament stage.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Lloyd; Pujol, Dollenmayer, de Lucas, Firpo; Gonzalez, J. Lopez, Rosario, Vasquez; Diaz, Romero

Mexico vs Dominican Republic prediction

Mexico will come into this contest as heavy favourites against the Dominican Republic and understandably so when assessing the two squads on show for this opening game. Mexico will likely enjoy plenty of possession and it’s difficult not to see them creating plenty of opportunities when considering the two goal predators they have up top.

Dominican Republic won’t be short of effort and desire, they were 5-0 winners in their last international fixture so confidence and belief should be high. But an opponent of Mexico’s class are likely to prove too strong for them to match over the course of 90 minutes and backing the defending champions to triumph by at least two clear goals is the sensible play.

Mexico vs Dominican Republic tip: Mexico to win with -1 handicap
