It has been another difficult year for veteran Mensur Suljovic whose only real positive moment came in the Flanders Darts Trophy when he made it to the last 16 for the first time on the European Tour since 2023.
That really has been the exception as his performances continue to decline and it will be a big ask for him to do anything of note in the World Championships this year.
He has however been handed a favourable draw as he faces one of the few players in the tournament that is older than him in David Cameron.
The 56-year-old Canadian made it to Ally Pally for just the third time and the Nova Scotia native will be desperate to do well.
We are unlikely to see a high quality match between these two but it is Suljovic who has to be favoured to get the victory. Cameron will be incredibly motivated but he is unlikely to have the quality consistently enough to really threaten Suljovic.
