This is an intriguing contest because it has the potential to be a goal-laden thriller as Olympique de Marseille welcome Atalanta down to Stade Velodrome in France.

Kick-off date/time:

How to watch online: UK – discovery+ / US – Paramount+

Marseille preview: In a title race

Roberto De Zerbi and his Olympique de Marseille side earned themselves a much-needed victory against Auxerre at Stade de l’Abbe-Deschamps at the weekend, leaving them in a genuine title race behind defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Marseille have been brilliant to watch throughout the De Zerbi era but they are too inconsistent and that has been shown in the UEFA Champions League with their most recent outing being a disappointing 2-1 defeat in Lisbon against Sporting CP.

Atalanta preview: Underwhelming Bergamasci

Over the summer, Gian Piero Gasperini departed for Roma and he was replaced by former Southampton boss Ivan Juric, who has overseen an underwhelming start to the campaign for the Bergamasci with just two wins in ten Serie A matches.

They come into this one on the back of a 1-0 loss to Udinese at the Bluenergy Stadium in Friuli at the weekend to mean that they are winless in six matches across all competitions, scoring just three goals in that time.

Marseille team news: Emerson suspended

Having been sent off against Sporting CP, Emerson Palmieri is now missing through suspension for this one, whilst key attacker Amine Gouiri remains out injured.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Rulli; Murillo, Pavard, Aguerd, Garcia; Vermeeren, Hojbjerg; Greenwood, O'Riley, Paixao; Aubameyang

Unavailable: Emerson (Suspended), Kondogbia (Injured), Traore (Injured), Gouiri (Injured)

Questionable: Balerdi (Injured), Nadir (Illness), Weah (Injured)

Atalanta team news: A few issues

Atalanta are dealing with a few longer term issues, albeit Daniel Maldini is a fresh doubt, whilst defensive duo Giorgio Scalvini and Sead Kolasinac remain sidelined for the visitors.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Carnesecchi; Kossonou, Hien, Djimsiti; Bellanova, Ederson, Pasalic, Zalewski; Lookman, De Ketelaere; Krstovic

Unavailable: Scalvini (Injured), Kolasinac (Injured)

Questionable: De Roon (Injured), Maldini (Injured)

Marseille vs Atalanta prediction

Marseille have some brilliant players and with Roberto De Zerbi’s fluent and progressive, aggressive style of football, they are always worth a watch for the neutral. That used to be the case for Atalanta but they now, with the style implemented by Ivan Juric, do appear to be a meek iteration of the Bergamasci and Marseille would have to be viewed as firm favourites for this one down on the south of France.
