Marseille preview: Getting back on track

Coached by former Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi, Olympique de Marseille have been brilliant to watch throughout the campaign and the last few years but they want to get serious and be a part of the title race in Ligue 1.

The southerners were knocked off top spot at the weekend due to a 2-1 loss to a strong and also high flying Lens side at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, due to a Benjamin Pavard own goal separating the two sides.

Angers preview: Much-needed win

Having gained promotion to the top-flight of French football in the 2023/24 season, Angers performed well to ease themselves away from the bottom three and the danger zone under the management of Alexandre Dujeux.

The visitors will be a little concerned about so-called ‘second season syndrome’ after a poor start to this season but they do come into this one on the back of a much-needed 2-0 defeat of newly-promoted Lorient at Stade Raymond Kopa at the weekend,

Marseille team news: Weah a doubt

United States international winger Timothy Weah is a doubt for Marseille, alongside Hamed Junior Traore, whilst Facundo Medina, Geoffrey Konodgbia and Amine Gouiri are confirmed absentees.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Rulli; Michael Amir Murillo, Pavard, Aguerd, Emerson; O’Riley, Vermeeren; Igor Paixao, Greenwood, Weah; Vaz

Unavailable: Medina (Injured), Kondogbia (Injured), Gouiri (Injured)

Questionable: Traore (Injured), Weah (Injured)

Angers team news: A few doubts

As they travel to Stade Velodrome this weekend, Angers are dealing with a few key doubts as exciting striker Prosper Peter is potentially sidelined alongside Jim Allevinah and Emmanuel Biumla.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Koffi; Arcus, Camara, Lefort, Hanin; Belkelba, Abdelli; Belkhdim, Mouton, Sbai; Cherif

Unavailable:

Questionable: Allevinah (Injured), Biumla (Injured), Peter (Injured)

Marseille vs Angers prediction

Angers head to Stade Velodrome with the memory of getting their first win back in the top-flight there last season. They will likely make themselves again difficult to beat for an often combustible and frustratingly complacent Marseille side. That said, though, Marseille would have to remain firm favourites with their abundance of talent, as well as their home advantage.
