All of Wales will be behind David Davies, who will be making his televised debut on the biggest stage in darts. Belgium’s Mario Vandenbogaede is appearing at Ally Pally for the second time and having drawn a part-time player, he’s got every reason to feel confident about his chances in this first round encounter.
Neither of these two players are high scorers and 180s are likely to be in short supply over the course of this game. Vandenbogaede averaged 85.59 in that one prior appearance at the World Darts Championship, whilst Davies has never proven to be a consistent maximum hitter.
With that in mind, expect a contest short on high calibre darts, but potentially high on entertainment because there’s a good chance that we could see a fairly lengthy match. But the sensible move would be to back under 5.5 maximums to be thrown.
