Mansfield vs Wigan Prediction

Mansfield are going well in League One right now having won four of their last five games, and although they haven’t progressed beyond the third round since 2007-08, they boast a manager in Nigel Clough who has taken a side to the semi-finals before, with his Sheffield Utd side reaching the last four in 2013-14.

The hosts have recorded away victories at Curzon Ashton and Stevenage on their way to the third round this season.

Also semi-finalists in 2013-14, the season after they went all the way, Wigan have strong FA Cup pedigree but they are ten points worse off than the hosts in the League One table and come into this off the back of successive league defeats to admittedly strong opposition in the form of Wrexham and Birmingham.

The Latics have needed extra-time in both of their FA Cup ties this season, coming through against Carlisle and Cambridge.

These two have already met this season, with Mansfield winning 1-2 on Wigan’s turf, and a repeat outcome looks likely given that they have home advantage in this tie.
