Ruben Amorim has enjoyed some impressive performances and results against the stronger sides in England since his appointment in November but his Manchester United side must improve at dispatching of poor sides such as Southampton, who they face this week.

Man Utd Team News: Dalot suspension

Following being sent off for a second bookable offence at Arsenal at the weekend, wing-back Diogo Dalot will now be missing through suspension for United and he is sidelined alongside several other defenders.

Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw all also remain unavailable alongside Mason Mount, whilst in-form Amad Diallo recovered from 'a little injury' to come off the bench at the Emirates.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Onana; De Ligt, Maguire, Martinez; Mazraoui, Ugarte, Mainoo, Diallo; Fernandes, Garnacho; Hojlund

Unavailable: Evans (Injured), Lindelof (Injured), Dalot (Suspended), Shaw (Injured), Mount (Injured)

Southampton Team News: Still no Stephens

Mateus Fernandes has returned from suspension for Southampton ahead of this week's trip north to Old Trafford and Ireland international duo Gavin Bazunu and Will Smallbone have also returned from injury for this week.

Saints' boss Ivan Juric said he was hopeful of having Flynn Downes back for this one, too, but they remain without club captain Jack Stephens as well as both Juan Larios and Ross Stewart.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Ramsdale; Bree, Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis; Walker-Peters, Ugochukwu, Downes, Manning; Fernandes; Dibling, Sulemana

Unavailable: Stephens (Injured), Larios (Injured), Stewart (Injured)

Questionable: Downes (Injured)

Man Utd vs Southampton Prediction

Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United came through the third round of the FA Cup with a penalty shootout victory against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend. That came a week after a good performance in a 2-2 draw at Anfield against league leaders Liverpool and they have also beaten Manchester City away from home but the Red Devils have still managed just four victories in 13 matches inside 90 minutes across all competitions. They face a Southampton side that managed to ease to a 3-0 win against Swansea City in the cup at St Mary’s the other day but Saints are actually trying to fight against finishing this season with a record lowest points total in the Premier League. United are still yet to prove they can be trusted in these sorts of games but it is a game they must surely win and win comfortably at Old Trafford.

Man Utd vs Southampton Tip: Man Utd to win -1 handicap
