Man City Preview: Inconsistent City

Manchester City have improved since the turn of the year but even with that improvement, they are not ‘back’ or showing signs of being the team that they have been for over half a decade now with too many defeats far too often.

In 169 matches, City had suffered just 15 defeats across all competitions. Their most recent 15 losses across all competitions have come in just their last 30 games with the most recent loss being a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last weekend.

Brighton Preview: Soaring Seagulls

Former St Pauli boss Fabian Hurzeler, who became the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history when he took charge of Brighton and Hove Albion last summer, was under pressure a few weeks ago but the Seagulls are now enjoying a very impressive campaign.

They scored a 98th minute winner via the penalty spot, scored by Joao Pedro, to defeat Fulham by two goals to one at the AMEX Stadium last weekend and that means they have now enjoyed six successive victories across all competitions.

Man City Team News: Rodri back in training

Pep Guardiola did not provide any team news or report any injury issues in his pre-match press conference but Rodri has returned to individual training from his ACL injury. They do remain without the likes of Nathan Ake, John Stones and Manuel Akanji, whilst Oscar Bobb is also expected to remain unavailable.

Predicted XI (4-1-4-1): Ederson; Nunes, Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol; Gonzalez; Savio, Silva, Foden, Doku; Haaland

Unavailable: Akanji (Injured), Ake (Injured), Stones (Injured), Rodri (Fitness)

Questionable: Bobb (Fitness)

Brighton Team News: Lamptey returns

Just like Guardiola, Fabian Hurzeler didn't provide any updates on Brighton's fairly long injury list but the Seagulls are blessed by the return of Ghana international right-back Tariq Lamptey, who has served a one-match ban. The likes of club captain Lewis Dunk as well as Matt O'Riley and Ferdi Kadioglu remain sidelined.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Lamptey, Van Hecke, Webster, Estupinan; Hinshelwood, Baleba; Minteh, Rutter, Mitoma; Pedro

Unavailable: Steele (Injured), Dunk (Injured), Igor (Injured), Veltman (Injured), Kadioglu (Injured), Milner (Injured), O'Riley (Injured)

Questionable:

Man City vs Brighton Prediction

Ahead of this weekend, Manchester City sit fifth on 47 points with Brighton a place and a point behind after their recent excellent form. In the reverse fixture between these two, towards the beginning of City’s collapse, Brighton produced a late turnaround at the AMEX Stadium by two goals to one. Forget all that has gone before in previous seasons but these are two evenly matches sides in the present and Brighton will fancy their chances of playing a part in what could end up being quite a high-scoring encounter with a fair bit potentially on the line.

Man City vs Brighton Tip: Over 2.5 goals
