The Mamelodi Sundowns, under the management of former Celta Vigo boss Miguel Cardoso, come into this one on the back of comfortable 2-0 defeat of Magesi in the South African top-flight last weekend to clinch the South African league title once again. They have now enjoyed an eight-match unbeaten run of form across all competitions.
They now take on a Pyramids FC side that defeated Petrojet by two goals to nil in the championship round of the Egyptian Premier League, where they currently sit a couple of points behind Al Ahly at the top-of-the-table. They overcame the Orlando Pirates by three goals to two on aggregate in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League last month.
The onus will be on the Mamelodi Sundowns to take the initiative in their home leg this weekend and, given their form, siding with the South Africans would appear the way to go for this first-leg.
