In the opening couple of rounds of the UEFA Champions League, Malmo produced some impressive and comfortable victories as they defeated Iberia 1999 and then Rigas Futbola Skola. They were then hammered 5-0 on aggregate by Copenhagen in the third qualifying round, despite a goalless draw in the first-leg in Sweden.
They now face a Sigma Olomouc side that are entering into UEFA competition this week after finishing sixth in the Czech top-flight last season but, under the management of Tomas Janotka, they won the Czech Cup; their third ever trophy. They haven’t been in Europe since reaching this stage of the 2018/19 UEFA Europa League.
Sigma will be seeking to ensure they remain in the tie when they return for the second-leg in Czechia, but Malmo have to be viewed as firm favourites with their home advantage.
