Werder Bremen travel to a Mainz side trying to break out of the bottom three.

Kick-off date/time:

Mainz preview: Four in a row

Mainz fell to a fourth consecutive Bundesliga defeat last weekend, losing 2-1 away to Stuttgart, meaning they remain inside the bottom three. Whilst it was a better performance from the team, Stuttgart wound up too strong and when things aren’t going your way, you can end up going home empty handed despite playing well.

They’ve conceded 12 goals over the course of those four matches, all of which saw Mainz ship at least two goals. That will likely have to change if they are to come away from this encounter with three points.

Werder Bremen preview: Building momentum

Werder Bremen secured a third league win of the 2025-26 campaign last time out by defeating Union Berlin by one goal to nil in a dogged, determined and fighting performance. The defence was outstanding in that one, particularly as the game went on and Union began throwing extra bodies forward after Werder had taken the lead.

To have picked up the three points was massive psychologically for this team and proved for the second home league game running that their backline can get things done when the pressure is on them and keep the opposition out.

Mainz team news: Widmer likely in

Silvan Widmer could well get the start for Mainz at right-wing-back due to a hamstring injury ruling Caci out of this match. He joins Dal on the sidelines here for the home side.

Predicted XI: (3-4-3): Zentner; Da Costa, Bell, Kohr; Widmer, Sano, Amiri, Mwene; Nebel, Hollerbach, Lee

Unavailable: Caci (Injured), Dal (Injured)

Questionable:

Werder Bremen team news: Multiple injured players

Werder Bremen could have Schmidt available provided he passes a late fitness test but the likes of Agu, Deman, Weiser and Wober are all ruled out through injury against Mainz.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1)Backhaus; Sugawara, Pieper, Coulibaly, Friedl; Stage, Lynen; Grull, Schmid, Mbangula; Boniface

Unavailable: Agu (Injured), Deman (Injured), Weiser (Injured), Wober (Injured)

Questionable: Schmidt (Injured)

Mainz vs Werder Bremen prediction

It can be so difficult to arrest a losing run, such as the lack of confidence that sweeps through the dressing room. Heads drop quickly on the pitch at the first signs of trouble and it would be no surprise to see that again here if Werder Bremen impose themselves on Mainz and gain an extended spell of possession which begins to frustrate the crowd.

Werder have been looking really promising recently and the mood among their camp must be high following recent Bundesliga results, specifically seven points from the last nine available to them. Backing them to beat Mainz via the safety of the draw no bet market is a move worth making.

Mainz vs Werder Bremen tip: Werder Bremen draw no bet
