Mainz are beginning to push themselves clear of the danger zone in the Bundesliga as they now welcome an in-form mid-table outfit Augsburg this weekend.

Mainz preview: In-form Mainz

Having qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League last season, Mainz have massively underwhelmed this season as they begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting third-from-bottom and in the relegation playoff place.

However, with former Union Berlin manager Urs Fischer now having replaced the previously highly-rated and once Leeds United-linked Bo Henriksen, Mainz have found some brilliant form of late as they try and push out of danger.

Augsburg preview: Steady Augsburg

Augsburg begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly ensconced in the middle-of-the-table. Early February is a bit early to suggest a team may be on the beach but, with 14 games to go, Augsburg do appear comfortably placed both clear of danger and adrift of European competition.

That said, things can change quickly and back-to-back victories ahead of this one may have them dreaming of Europe. Especially with the first of those coming against the as of then unbeaten Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, before they then managed to defeat struggling St Pauli at the Augsburg Arena last weekend.

Mainz team news: Lots of injuries

There are quite a few injury issues for Mainz to deal with for this one with plenty of doubts as well as Robin Zentner, Andreas Hanche-Olsen and Benedict Hollerbach all being confirmed absentees.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Batz; Posch, Bell, Potulski; Da Costa, Amiri, Sano, Lee, Widmer; Tietz, Hollerbach

Unavailable: Zentner (Injured), Hanche-Olsen (Injured), Hollerbach (Injured)

Questionable: Leitsch (Injured), Dal (Injured), Veratsching (Injured), Kawasaki (Injured), Caci (Injured)

Augsburg team news: Defensive issues

Augsburg are dealing with plenty of injuries in defensive positions at the moment, such as Chrislain Matsima, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, Kristijan Jakic and Dimitrios Giannoulis.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Dahmen; Chaves, Schlotterbeck, Banks; Wolf, Massengo, Rexhbecaj, Fellhauer; Rieder, Claude-Maurice; Gregoritsch

Unavailable:

Questionable: Matsima (Injured), Gouweleeuw (Injured), Jakic (Injured), Giannoulis (Injured)

Mainz vs Augsburg prediction

Mainz come into this one on the back of an impressive 2-1 win at the Red Bull Arena away at RB Leipzig. That was their third victory in their last four matches after the appointment of Fischer. They now face an Augsburg that are similarly in good form and so this one should be quite a good game with two in-form teams and both teams scoring seems a good bet.

Mainz vs Augsburg tip: Both teams to score
