Lyon preview: Dip in form

Olympique Lyonnais come into this one on the back of a 2-0 defeat to La Liga outfit Real Betis at La Cartuja in Andalusia in the league phase of the UEFA Europa League in midweek, due to second-half goals from Antony and Abde Ez.

In Ligue 1, Lyon begin the weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the top four but only on goal difference and they are only four points adrift of league leaders and upcoming opponents, Paris Saint-Germain.

Paris Saint-Germain preview: Struggling for consistency

Luis Enrique is in charge of a Paris Saint-Germain side that surged to the treble last season with some excellent performances in the second-half of the campaign but the Parisians’ form has been inconsistent of late.

The champions head into this one on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. That means they have only won five of their last ten matches across all competitions.

Lyon team news: Hateboer suspended

Having joined on an emergency loan from Stade Rennais, wing-back Hans Hateboer was sent off a few minutes into his debut last week and he is now missing through suspension.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Greif; Maitland-Niles, Clinton Mata, Niakhate, Tagliafico; Morton, Tessmann; Martin Satriano, Tolisso, Afonso; Sulc

Unavailable: Hateboer (Suspended), Mangala (Injured), Nuamah (Injured), Fofana (Injured)

Questionable:

Paris Saint-Germain team news: Key injuries

Achraf Hakimi is unavailable due to injury after being fouled by Luis Diaz in midweek, whilst both Nuno Mendes and Ousmane Dembele were also forced off for the Parisians.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Chevalier; Zaire-Emery, Zabarnyo, Willian Pacho, Hernandez; Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz; Kvaratskhelia, Mayulu, Barcola

Unavailable: Mendes (Injured), Hakimi (Injured), Doue (Injured), Dembele (Injured)

Lyon vs Paris Saint-Germain prediction

Lyon had to lose a lot of key players over the summer due to the ownership issues performed by John Textor. The home team still do have a lot of quality, though. They welcome a PSG side that are currently underperforming and struggling to find their own rhythm and consistency at the moment. As a result, Lyon should hurt the Parisians but PSG remain the firm favourites, especially as Lyon’s form has dipped.
