Lyon preview: Strong Lyon

Olympique Lyonnais, coached by former Lille boss Paulo Fonseca, come into this one on the back of securing top spot in the 36-team league phase table of the UEFA Europa League with a 4-2 victory over PAOK Salonika the other day.

The home team have been in excellent form of late as they sit tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures, currently on an eight-match winning streak across all competitions.

Lille preview: Despite for form

Lille have generally impressed since the departure of Fonseca with former Lyon boss Bruno Genesio having performed an impressive job at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, but the northerners are in desperate need of a result this weekend.

The visitors did manage to edge past Freiburg by a goal to nil, courtesy of a second-half stoppage-time penalty scored by Olivier Giroud in the UEFA Europa League in midweek but they had succumbed to five successive losses before that.

Lyon team news: Fresh doubts

There are fresh injury doubts for Lyon to deal with for this one as both Orel Mangala and Pavel Sulc are potentially sidelined, while Corentin Tolisso has sustained a hamstring injury.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Descamps; Clinton Mata, Kluivert, Niakhate, Maitland-Niles; Tessmann, Morton; Karabec, Merah, Afonso; Himbert

Unavailable: Tagliafico (Injured), Tolisso (Injured), Nuamah (Injured), Fofana (Injured)

Questionable: Mangala (Injured), Sulc (Injured), Ghezzal (Injured)

Lille team news: A few injuries

As they make the trip to Lyon this weekend, Lille are dealing with plenty of injury issues as Ousmane Toure remains sidelined alongside Thomas Meunier, Nabil Bentaleb, Osame Sahraoui and Hamza Igamane.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Ozer; Santos, Mandi, Ngoy, Verdonk; Mukau, Andre, Bouaddi, Correia; Haraldsson, Fernandez-Pardo

Unavailable: Toure (Injured), Meunier (Injured), Bentaleb (Injured), Sahraoui (Injured), Igamane (Injured)

Lyon vs Lille prediction

Lille have lacked form for a few weeks now, ever since their return from the mid-season winter break and it would be fair to suggest that dip in form began with a loss to Lyon in the Coupe de France earlier this month. Lyon will take the game to Lille, given their form and home advantage, but, with the quality that Lille do have, amid their poor form, that should suit the visitors and both teams scoring would therefore seem a good bet for this one on Friday evening.

Lyon vs Lille tip: Lyon to win
