Lyon vs Basel prediction

Paulo Fonseca is leading an impressive Olympique Lyonnais side that had to shed a lot of the fat from their squad for financial reasons over the summer and that has perhaps led them to now having too thin a squad. They most recently suffered an entertaining and dramatic 3-2 loss to Nice at the Allianz Riviera at the weekend.

They face a Basel side that come into this one on the back of a comfortable and impressive 3-0 defeat of Winterthur at the weekend. The Swiss giants have now enjoyed three successive victories. In the UEFA Europa League, they have been beaten by German opposition, Freiburg, and beaten German opposition, Stuttgart.

Dealing with domestic and European commitments with a small squad may hurt Lyon eventually but they are firm favourites still for this tie, with their home advantage.
